The LG VX9700 Dare is a slim and attractive candy-bar form phone, its casing created mostly of black plastic and accentuated in chrome. Though a successor, the LG VX9700 Dare is not really an upgrade on the Voyager.

The Dare, a CDMA typed dual band phone, has a robust UI, single display and is considered a multi-tasker. The dimensions of the handset are 104 x 56 x 13 mm and it weighs 107 grams. The size of the TFT display screen is 240 x 400 pixels which is capable of projecting 262K colours and includes the light sensor, which assists in adjusting the brightness of the display depending on available light, and handwriting recognition features. A proximity-sensory incorporated in the handset helps turn the display off if the phone is next to the user’s face while on a call.

The phone has a camera with a resolution of 3.2 MP with flash and digital zoom. Other features include a caller-groups supported phonebook, stereo Bluetooth, MicroUSB port, Music player (MP3, AAC, AAC+, WMA), a 3.5 mm head-phone jack, external memory slot (microSD/microSDHC), speaker phone and picture ID. The front of the LG VX9700 Dare handset is a fingerprint magnet, while the back features a soft-touch coating, which gives the handset an overall high durability.

There are very few physical keys on the phone – Send, Clear/Voice Command and End/Power. Along the sides of the handset one will find the lock, speakerphone, volume control and camera keys. An interesting concept came into use with the LG VX9700 Dare. The LG VX9700 Dare handset, instead of a standard wall charger, now comes with a new modular unit that plugs into the wall. The chord can however be disconnected, and in so doing it turns it into a USB cable for PC connectivity.
